MOGADISHU, Somalia — August 2026 — Dr Jihaan Hassan, MIH Program Director, met with the Banadir Regional Administration (BRA) Health Directorate team to review progress on the priority studies and to plan the next steps. Regular joint reviews keep the partnership on track and focused on the region’s health priorities.

The priority studies were chosen in June 2026, when MIH and the Directorate’s staff came together to set a shared research agenda. In sessions led by Dr Jihaan Hassan, the partners agreed priorities and selected the key studies to take forward in the first year, so that the research answers the questions that matter most for health services in Banadir.

The partnership was formalised with a Memorandum of Understanding in May 2026 and is part of MIH’s Research Strengthening Partnership (RSP), which helps Somali institutions build their own research and use of evidence.

What the partnership focuses on

Capacity strengthening: training, mentorship and knowledge exchange for the regional health workforce.

Collaborative research: joint studies to inform regional health planning and service delivery.

Data and evidence use: strengthening health data systems and using evidence in decision-making.
